Field Trip Factory
August is planning time for the new school year for
most homeschoolers. If you are like me and love field
trips, you will find the Field Trip Factory a useful
resource. Their goal is to offer FREE, life-skill
based learning opportunities to educators and
community organizers everywhere there is a need. The
easiest way to use the site is to use the "What's in
my area" search on the left side of the page. Input
your zip (or the zip or an area you will be visiting)
and see what is available.

Virtual Field Trips
If real life field trips aren't possible for you right
now, there are plenty of virtual field trips that can
supplement and enhance your studies. From Kim Foley,
the author of The Big Pocket Guide to Using & Creating
Virtual Field Trips, Field-Trips.org offers a variety
of free virtual field trips that have been created by
teachers with TourMaker© software, a virtual field
trip creator.

Printable water-resource posters from USGS
These 9 posters about water-resources topics are drawn
in a cartoon format by the same cartoonist. Posters
are available in color or black and white. The back
sides of the color poster JPEG files contain
educational activities: one version for children in
grades 3-5 and the other with activities for children
in grades 6-8. The black-and-white posters are
intended for coloring by children in grades K-5.

FEMA for Kids: Hurricanes
We are headed for hurricane season on the east coast
so I thought this would be a good time to interest
kids in the science and history of hurricanes. The
FEMA for Kids website has everything from videos to
tracking charts. Kids can learn how to protect their
homes, put together a disaster supply kit, planning
for pets in a disaster, and more.

Make a Farm Printable
If the younger children in your house are getting
stir-crazy, try this printable Foldup from Own and
Mouse Software. You download and install the software,
then print the pages and let the kids cut, fold, and
tape. You can also download Make a Town.
